TWO-UP.
A Lesson to Gamblers. Timaru, July 13. The police last night raided a “ two-up ” school here, and arrested eight men, who, on being searched, were found to have in their possession. The men appeared at the Court this morning, when Captain Wray, S.M., said he saw no reason why the maximum penalty should not be imposed. Gambling was causing a great deal of distress and immorality in the Dominion, and must be put down with a strong hand. He imposed the maximum fine of on Barry, as keeper of a common gaming-house, and the maximum each) on the seven young men who were caught at the game. Wkstport, July 13.
At Denniston to-day, for playing “two-up,” two men were fined £3, and costs ys., and three men £+ and costs, by the Magistrate (Mr Rawsou).
