THE RIVER BOARD.
Royal Commission Appointed. A meeting of the River Boajd Committee was held at Palmerston yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash) presiding, Mr E. J. Armstrong, the secretary, presented a report in which he said he had had copies made for the Minister of Lands of the replies of the local bodies in connection with the matter of the proposed river board. He had, through the co-operation ot Mr W. T. Wood, M.P., been able to present the papers personally, and answer questions relating thereto. He learnt from the Minister that the Royal Commission had already been set up, but the only reason why it was not gazetted was because one of its members was engaged in other work, and could not name the date when he would be free. From this it will be seen that the Royal Commission has already been appointed; in fact, it was appointed more than a month ago, and consists, we understand, ,of~ Messrs Robinson and W. S. Short, who were members of the Taieri Commission, both of whom have agreed to act.
