THE ELECTORAL ACT.

Wellington, July 6. The father of a family and a canvasser were each fined £2 to-day by Mr Riddell, S.M. for a breach of the Electoral Act. The canvasser obtained the names of six adult members of a family on claims for enrolment, and-4bs father attested the signatures, though he had not seen the names signed. The Magistrate sa'd defendants had not made themselves acquainted, with the provisions of the Act. It was reported that people had been getting their names on the roll when they had no right to vote.
