London, June 30. The hearing of the charge against Robert Siever was commenced at Bow Street to-day. According to the evidence, since the newspaper, the Winning Post was started Siever had almost weekly made an attack upon J. H. Joel and family. Recently Siever, being short of money, approached Joel for a loan, finally promising to abstain from publishing further defamatory matter it given ,£SOOO. The Council of the Northumberland Miners’ Association, by 55 to 23, condemned the Miners’ Eight Hours Bill. The miners of the district will shortly ballot on the question. Sydney, June 30. The revenue for the year increased by Melbourne, June 30. The Commonwealth, instead of paying the June revenue to the States, paid it into the Old Age Pensions and Coastal Defence Trust funds, as provided under the Surplus Revenue Bill.
