CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SUBSCRIPTIONS.
We feel sure townspeople and settlers throughout the district recognise the efforts of the local Chamber of Commerce in their endeavour to have a Plarbour Board constituted, to control our much neglected port. This undertaking has entailed extra expenditure, and the funds of the Chamber have been taxed to their utmost. We hope, therefore, that members of the Chamber who have not yet paid their subscription will lose no time in “ handing up,” and that townsmen and settlers throughout the district who have not joined ‘‘the ranks” will show practical appreciation by becoming members. It is necessary to explain here, however, that the expenses incurred by the President, Mr P. J. Heunessy, in connection with the proposed Harbour Board Bill, have been generously given out of his own pocket. The annual fee is half a guinea. There is no doubt that after the Chamber has negotiated the Harbour Board hurdle, it will turn up some other useful object which will make for the advancement ot Foxton and district —but it must be provided with the sinews of war.
