COMMERCIAL.
Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows regarding last Friday’s sale : —We held our fortnightly sale to-day, offering 25 bales of wool, 1500 skins, 400 hides and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Wool : Crutchings are beginning to come into the market and many bales were offered today. They met with good demand considering market conditions. We quote —Medium crossbred, 3d to ; inferior, 2d to 3d : lambs wool, 4d to 5d ; pieces and locks, id to 2d; good crutchings, 4d to 4%d ; medium crutchings, 3d to 4<i ; seedy and inferior, ij4d to Skins : Steady : We quote —Fine crossbreds, qd to 3d ; crossbreds, 3d to dead skins, 2d to 3d ; dead hoggets, ij£d to dry pelts, id to ijad; lambskins, 3d to \Y>d green pelts, 2s to 3s ; green lambs woolly, 2s to 3s , green lamb pells is to is qd. Tallow ; Steady. Parcels in shipping order, ,£22. Tins, to 1 os. Rough fat, to ,£l3. Horsehair: is to is 3d per lb. Horns ; 5s to 17s 6d per hundred. Cowtails : is 6d to is 8d per dozen. Hides : We brought forward another good catalogue. Last sale prices however were not maintained owing to easier oversea markets. Heavies fell one halfpenny and lights one farthing. We quote — Ox hides (heavy), s%d to 6d ; ox hides (medium), 3d to $"/ad ; ox hides (light) qd to cow hides, to qj6d ; cut and slippy hides, 2d to ; stag hides 2 l / 2 d to bull hides, 2d to 3d ; calf cut and slippy, 2d to 3d. Our uext sale will be held on Friday, July 3rd, 1908.
HIDE AND SKIN REPORT
Messrs Dalgety and Company, limited, Wellington, held their fortnightly sale of wool, skins, hides and tallow on Friday, 19th instant, there being a larger attendance of buyers present than usual. They report as follows: —We offered a fair quantity of crutchings which met with a good demand, prices showing considerable improvement. The demand for skins was about equal to last sale, but lighter sorts showed a l ,slight decline. Calfskins were firmer. We quote: —Well. —crossbred, sHd to qd ; crutchings, s eedy, 2%d to —crossbred, to 4}4d ; dead, to wools, to to lambs. 3Xd to s<i; crossbred, damp, 2s 6d to 3s 3d. Hides : Ox 65lbs to 76 lbs, sf-ad to 5)4d per lb; 4olbs to sslbs, 4>6d to per lb. Cow; 6albs to 69, per lb; 53lbs to 54lbs, 4d per lb; cut and slippy, sqlbs, 2V\d to 3d. Yearlings : to 4>fid. Calf : slbs, 2d to 3d. Tallow : Drums, 21s 6d ; tins, 20s gd per cwt. EONDON MARKETS. Butter: Market firm. The Copenhagen Official quotation is 2 kroners (about 2s 3d) per cwt. higher. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for week ending 13th instant amounted to 80,000 cwt as compared with 79,000 cwt for the corresponding week of 1907 ; showing an increase of 1000 cwt. There is more demand for unsalted than salted. Finest 108 s per cwt. Frozen meat. The market is firm for all descriptions with the exception of light Canterbury. Since our last advices prices for New Zealand crossbred lamb are % per lb higher. There is a slightly better demand for mutton and beef. Tallow: —The market is irregular. Since our last advices prices for beef and mixed tallow of good colour are unchanged. Prices for other descriptions are on the average 6d to is per cwt higher. There is a brisk demand for edible descriptions of beef tallow.
