The volumes have been carefully examined by the Superintendent of Electric Lines, who considers them to be excellent, and such as to convey sufficient knowledge to enable candidates to present themselves for the Technical Examinations of this Department. It has not been the rule of the Department to accept Certificates other than those granted by our own expert examining officers ; but I have no doubt any person obtaining a Certificate of Proficiency from you would readily pass the examination prescribed by out regulations. As an indication of the nature of the examinations, 1 have pleasure in forwarding herewith copy of questions set for the current year’s Senior Technical Examination. I shall have pleasure in conveying to the officers of this Department who may enquire about the matter my appreciation of the value of your Course of Instruction. Sir, —In reply to your favour, I have the honour to state that, having carefully examined your Courses arranged for those in the Building Trade, I can thoroughly recommend them to anyone wishing to gain a good theoretical knowledge of the subject. To those Students who cannot avail themselves of a well equipped School of Art with highly-trained lecturers, they are a boon indeed. The matter is thoroughly up-to-date, and deals more with timber built houses than any English Text Books. My best students in the practical classes in the above College have been students who have studied up the theory of the subject in your classes. Your Architectural Library which I possess, contains the most practical set of books on the subject I have ever seen, and can only have been written by men who have in actual practice encountered the work they so ably describe. After one year of the I.C.S. tuition in the Complete Architectural Course, I was quite competent to draw plans and elevations, etc., for up-to-date residences. Although of only ordinary abilities, the benefits derived in taking up a Course in these Schools are very pointed by way of promotion (as in my case) from tradesman, to architect to my employer.
