MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Monthly Meeting.
The monthly meeting of the Manavvatu County Council was held yesterday. Present : Crs Wilson (chairman), Masters, Dalton, Kendall, Barber and Hensen.
Correspondence. The following letters were read :
From Horowheuua County Council, stating that they were prepared to undertake construction of new piece of road leading from present Shannon-P'oxton road to the bridge, and also constructing an equal length of road on the Shannon side; the cost to be included in the total cost of the bridge. From same, informing the Council that preparations were being made in connection with the opening or the Shannon Bridge, and asking the Council it they were prepared to bear a portion of the expense. From Clerk, Tevin, attaching Mr Fulton’s certificate of progress payment No. 6 on Shannon Bridge, and asking the Council for another payment on account of Council’s share.
From Mr John Stevens, M.P., re borrowing powers, which the Council wanted Parliament to agree to, and enclosing copy ol letter to the Prime Minister.
From Mr W. McKenzie, Palmerston N., re reception of his Excellency the Governor at Palmerston N., and extending to the members of the Mauawatu County Council a cordial invitation to take part in the function. From Mr J. K. Fulton, engineer, Wellington, stating that no satisfactory tenders had been received for repairs to theWhirokino Bridge, also enclosing names of firms with whom he believed an arrangement could be made. From same stating that the tender of McWilliams and Andrews was a reasonable one, and advising Council to accept it. The total cost, if accepted, would be 2S ld -
From same, re-tramway extension to Bulls, stating that if the Council required estimate of cost of work, he would have to go further into the matter.
From Department of Lands and Survey, stating that section 269, Block 1., Mt. Robinson, had been vested in the Council for ferry purposes.
From Mr E. W. Tozer, Fox ton, stating he wanted to lease the ferry reserve at per annum for twenty one years, if Council had the right to lease it. From Mr W. E. Barber, Foxton, re the ferryman complaining that people were crossing the river by the bridge, as it was nearly finished.
From P. W. Brown, F'oxtou, re drainage at Foxton, asking for information as to whom the roaddrain past his property belonged and asking the Council to try to get it cleaned by whoever had charge of it.
