EDUCATION BOARD.
By Telegraph—Special to Herald. Wanganui, To-day. The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present: Messrs F. Pirani (Chairman), Aldridge, Bennett, Cargill, Fraser, Guthrie, Purnell, and Spurdle. Appointments: Oroua Bridge, assistant, Mrs Lyall; Normanby. head teacher, G. W. Mitchell ; Apiti, assistant, A. L. Symes. Resignations: B. Stewart, Nikau : J. Malcolm, Te Roti, C. B. Weekcs, Waitohi; L. B, Bassett, Warreug ate.
Rongotea grant £ for £ up to £l2 for draining and metalling. A deputation from the Ministers' Association waited on the Board, with reference to Bible reading in schools. Mr Fraser moved the following resolution, which was seconded by the Chairman, and carried :—That the Ministers’ Association be informed that any time set apart for the bible teaching, must be arranged by the school committee, outside of school hours, and that the Board regrets that it cannot see its way to alter the regulations fixing the school hours.
Tailiape. —Messrs Wilkinson’s tender for the erection of technical school was accepted. The school and fittings will cost over ,£I3OO. Feilding—.Mr F. Y. Lethbridge has given the Board 20 acres of land to be utilised for the students of the secondary and technical schools for farming instruction. A vote of thanks and appreciation were accorded to Mr Lethbridge. Leave of absence was granted to C. R. D. Lightbourne, R. E. Johnston, A. D. Lock and D. M. Rockell.
The Board adjourned till,first of July.
