The Palmerston Sitting.
The list of Supreme Court cases for the session commencing to-day contains only two criminal cases, one of alleged perjury and the other of assault and causing bodily harm. There are two divorce cases, 14 civil actions, including a claim of ,£5Ol preferred by R. Essex, late Mayor of Palmerston against E. D. Hobden, editor of the Manawatu Daily Times, for alleged libel. Another newspaper proprietor figures in the list —J. K. Hornblow, of the Hekat.d, being defendant in a claim for ,£5Ol, also for alleged libel, at the suit of W. Hamer, of Foxton. D. Ross, bookmaker, ot Wellington, proceeds against the Manawatu Racing Club, claiming £[looo damages for alleged injury to his character by the refusal to license him to bet on the second day of the Manawatu Races in April.
