PROPOSED HARBOUR BOARD.
A conference of delegates from local bodies and chambers of commerce throughout the district to discuss the proposed Foxton Harbour Board Bill is being held in the Palmerston Municipal Chambers this afternoon. The Foxton delegates who left by train this morning were: —The Mayor (B. G. Gower, Esq.), Messrs P. J. Hennessy (President; of the local Chamber of Commerce), R. Moore and M. E. Perreau.
Mr Remington, M.P. for Rangitikei, has written that he will be unable to attend.
Mr John Davis, of Koputarua, in replying to an invitation to be present, stated that it was only right and proper for the Government to assist the movement.
Letters have also been received from Mr A. Kaye, ex-chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, secretaries of the Patea and Wanganui Harbour Boards enclosing information re Government assistance, etc. A full report of the proceedings will appear in our next issue.
