PROPOSED HARBOUR BOARD.
The conference to be held at Patmerston on June 4th to discuss the Foxton Harbour Board Bill is evincing much interest in commercial circles throughout this and other districts, and the President of the .local Chamber of Comxuerce is in receipt of some very encouraging letters from leading commercial men in reply to the circular sent out by the local Chamber. Mr L. A. Abraham, of the firm of Messrs Barraud and Abraham, Palmerston North, writes that he shall be glad to attend the conference, and writes encouragingly. Mr J. G. Wilson, chairman of the Manawatu County Council, writes inter alia; “I shall be glad to help you to carry your project re Harbour Board. I have always believed that the revenue derived from the river and wharf should have been in the hands of a Board who would spend the money on the river, and as there is no proposal in your Bill to rate the land for the Board, I am sure my County would gladly assist you, and although there can he no meeting of. the County till after the conference, I will do my best to be present on behalf of the Manawatu County Council,”
