THE AMERICAN FLEET.
Auckland, Thursday. The Premier has intimated to the Mayor and the Chairman of the Harbour Board that he is prepared to introduce a Bill legalising the expenditure by local bodies of such sums as they deem fit in connection with the celebrations and welcome to the American fleet. The Mayor is convening a meeting of representative local bodies to decide on a basis of contributions.
