Mr and Mrs A. Percy Easton returned to Foxton last evening, . The lonic sailed from Wellington yesterday. Mr T, Rimmer has completed a large wool shed on Mrs Bert Austin’s estate, Moutoa Road. A meeting of the Albion Football Club is advertised to take place to-morrow night at 8 o’clock, in Bird’s Hotel. The monthly meeting of the school committee will be held in the school at 7.30 p.m., on Thursday next, 28th hist. The New Zealand Rugby Union is advised that the game, Britain v. Maori team, has been definitely fixed to be played at Rotorua on July 21 st. Football enthusiasts and members of local clubs are requested to attend a mass meeting to be held in Mr Rae-Howard’s rooms tonight. The object of the meeting is to endeavour to place football in Foxton on a more satisfactory footing. It is hoped that there will be a large attendance. Now is the time to purchase cow covers. W. Bullard has them on sale at xos 6d each. He also stocks footballs, hockey balls, sticks, and shin pads. He has also to arrive a large stock of English saddles and harness, tennis racquets, balls, etc.

Mr Alex. Speirs recently completed a commodious family residence on Mr Geo. Coley’s farm at Hiraatangi. Mr Coley and family have now taken up their residence in that district.

The Empire Day celebrations took place at the local State school on similar lines to that of last year. The cadets paraded, and short and appropriate addresses were made by the Chairman of the School Committee and the Rev. Mr Mairs. The National Anthem was sung, and cheers given for the headmaster and staff, and visitors, after which the scholars were dismissedAn exhibition of New Zealand flax and kindred fibres is being considered by prominent millers and according to the latest reports is practically under way, says the Post. The Department of Agriculture has promised assistance in the shape of providing a building the old drill shed, free of charge. It will also present a display of flax plant in all stages of their development. Plants grown at the Waerenga Experimental Station and at the State Farm, Weraroa, will also be shown, as well as milking machines and dressing methods. Samples of Manila and Sisal hemp fibres will afford an opportunity of making interesting comparisons.
W. Fahey, the well - known steeplechase rider, was killed at Wanganui on Saturday. Fahey was riding Arahura in the Wanganui Steeplechase. Arahura hit the top of the jump very hard with his fore feet, and his hind ones shot up in the air, and he came down almost perpendicularly, shooting his rider out of the saddle and falling with his full weight right on top of him as he lay on the ground within a foot or two of the sloping outward base of the hen coopFahey’s skull was badly fractured, while quite apart from that, the injuries inflicted internally, his chest being terribly crushed in, would have sufficed to have made his recovery practically impossible. He died shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
