~s Xqneion, May 22. Messfs Kellqw'and A. J. Staughton, Melbourneites, ascended to a height of 4800 feet in the Hon. C., Si Rolls’ balloon, travelling from Battersea to the shore of the North Sea at 40 miles an hour. Mr Kellow also ascended at Paris on Mr Farman’s aeroplane. In the House of commons, Mr Birrell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, announced that he would introduce a short Bill to make clear that —with the consent of the occupying planter—the Irish Estates Commissioners may reinstate evicted tenants.
The Telegraph is doubtful whether the Government will proceed with the Education and Miners’ Eight Hours Bills this session, owing to the necessity for concentrating attention on the pensions and licensing measures. New York, May 22.

A daughter of the condemned man declares that her father is not insane, but that it pays him to be insane just now. She says : “If he - was insane he would have killed my mother at home and not lured her to a lonely spot.” The daughter adds : “ I think he should be hanged—the wicked man. Ido not care what becomes of him so long as he is not let off. Hanging would he a just punishment. He has broken up our home and taken the life of a loving mother and a good wife.
