BOARDS AND COMMITTEES.
Nelson, May xg. At a meeting of the town school committee last evening, the Rev. MacKeuzie (chairman) gave notice to move as follows :—Whereas, under the Education Act the election of members of Boards is in the hands of country committees in an altogether undue preponderance, and whereas by a recent decision of the Appeal Court the Boards have not only general supervision but particular control over school management, and the committees are made no more than caretakers, this committee hereby resolves (r) that in the best interests of education it is expedient that the management of the respective educational affairs of the town and the country districts should be separated in a manner corresponding to that in which general affairs are managed by town councils and county councils, aud that town committees should be given the power now vested in Boards ; (2) that local parliamentary candidates be questioned as to their views on this subject; (3) that other town committees of the Dominion be circularised on the matter and their assistance be asked in connection with their canidates.
