NO-LICENSE LEAGUE.

An adjourned meeting of the local No-License League, was held in the Good Templar Hall on Thursday evening, - Rev. Mr Ritchie in the chair.

Mr Thompson, of Himitangi. proposed Mr Frankland for the presidency, and on this being seconded, Mr Frankland reminded the members of the argument he had used at the previous meeting when the same suggestion was made. He intended to contest a Parliamentary seat next November (Manawatu itself if an “ Absolute Majority Bill” were passed this session), and the two activities would not harmonise, though he was glad indeed to hold the vice-Presidency to which he, along with others, had been elected at that meeting. It was proposed by Mr Stewart, seconded by Mr Frankland, that the Presidency be offered to Rev. Mr Mairs. Carried. Mr Frankland having expressed his willingness to be secretary, unless called away by a contemplated business trip, it was proposed by Mr Stewart and seconded by Mr Smith, that he ,be elected to that post for the present. Carried. Mr Ritchie referred to a new plan of subsidising funds, and mentioned that had already been subscribed at so small a place as Rongotea. He said the burden was now thrown on the several electorates throughout the Dominion, and that twenty-five per cent, of their subscriptions was promised to the New Zealand Alliance. While on the subject of finance, Mr Ritchie told the meeting that his own salary was £4. per week, and that hitherto there had been no difficulty in financing. Collectors would have to be appointed for the district, and the funds thus obtained handed over to the local treasurer. After a few remarks on the approaching parliamentary campaign, in which he said the Nolicense Party would be a force of tremendous strength throughout the Dominion, the meeting closed.
