PROPOSED VOLUNTEER CORPS FOR FOXTON.
Preliminary Meeting.
A preliminary meeting of those interested in the formation of a volunteer corps in Foxton was held in Mr Page’s rooms on Friday evening. Mr W. E. Barnard read a letter received by him from the District Adjutant, outlining the procedure to be followed in order to bring the matter before the authorities, together with a letter from Major Tate, of Greytown, on the subject. It was resolved that those present should form themselves into a working committee, for the purpose of enrolling recruits, and that a public meeting should be held some time next week. Major Mounsey, of Palmerston North, has been asked to be present at the meeting, and if he is unable to attend, the officer commanding the district is to be approached, with a view to obtaining the presence of a military official.
