M.. Camille Flammarion, the famous astronomer, has made a striking forecast of the conditions under which the world will end its career. The spots on the sun will have increased in number and extent, and as a consequence its heat and light have become terribly diminished. Only those forms of the vegetable and animal life of the earth capable of enduring the cold, will survive. Even these will at last grow extinct; the changing seasons will give place to a dark, year-long winter ; the sun will show but a red ember of its old fires, and the earth become a frozen mass. In time it will become disintegrated—its fragments revolving like a shower of meteoric stones around the dying sun.
