London Markets.

Messrs Dalgety and Company, limited, Wellington, have received the following cable message from their London House, under date of the 7th inst. : Wool—(May series of sales) Of the total Colonial wools available (264,000 bales) more than halt is estimated to be crossbred wool. The estimated quantity to be offered is 180,000 bales. Arrangements have been made to hold over the balance. Dates of our own sales are 13111 ol May, 20th May, 27th May, and Ist June. Butter —Market weak ; the Copenhagen official quotation is unchanged. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for week ending 2nd inst., amounted to 78,000 as compared with 79,000 for the corresponding week of 1907, showing a decrease of 1000 cwl; finest, 106 s per cwt. Frozen meat. —lamb : the demand continues, and runs principally on finest qualities ; mutton, there is less demand and prices are weaker; beef, poor demand, but prices are unchanged. Our quotations for New Zealand descriptions are. Prime crossbred lamb, Canterbury, heavy light prime crossbred lamb, North Island, heavy 3d, light prime crossbred mutton, Canterbury, heavy 3light 4j6d ; prime crossbred mutton, North Island, heavy z}(d, light 3)Jd, hinds Sheepskins.— Prices are lower as follows, since our last advices : Combing Merino —x per cent to I'/id. Fine x-bred—id. Medium and course x-bred, woolly, id to iE>d Clothing — l / 2 d to j£d Tallow —At par to 3d per cwt. lower.

Messrs Levin and Company, Limited, held their Wellington wool, skin, hides and tallow sales on Friday last, and report as follows :—We held onr fortnightly sale to-day, offering a small quantity of wool in bales and bags, 1,000 skins, 820 hides and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Wool, :—Market weak and depressing. Sales can only be made at lower rates. We quote : medium crossbred 3d to inferior 2d to 3d lambs wool qd. to 3d pieces and kocks id to 2d. Skins: —In sympahty with advices received by cable to-day oi a fall of a halfpenny to a penny in London, prices fell here to an equal extent. We quote :—fine crossbreds 4d to 4fd crossbred 3d to 4d dead skins 2d to 3d dead hoggets lyi to 2%d dry pelts id to i}id lamb skins 3d to green pelts 2s to js gd green lambs wooly 2s to 2s gd green lambs pelts is to is gd. Tallow: — .Steady. Parcels in shipping order Tins £ l s Rough fat£ro to Horsehair ;—is is 3d per lb. Horns. 5s to 17s 6d per hundred. Cowtails is 6d to is Sd per dozen. Hides : —We had a heavy catalogue of hides which were well competed for at last sale prices. We quote: ox hides (heavy) 6d to bykd ox hides (medium) 6dto ox hides (light) 4d to 3d cow hides 3%d to 4 T 4d cut and slippy hides 2d to stag hides to 3sd bull hides 2d to 2}id calf best 4d to calf cut and slippy 2d to 3d.
