A novel form of terrorism was exercised by James Reid, who sweeps a crossing in Rondon. When fashionably-dressed women refused to give him money, he revenged himself by flicking mud with his broom on their dainty boots, under the pretence that he was giving the crossing an extra polish. Complaints led to his arrest, and a struggle with two policemen, and he was sentenced to five mouths’ hard labour at the Westminster Police Court.
