New York, May 13. A fire destroyed six business blocks and two hotels at Atalanta, Georgia. The damage done was a quarter of a million sterling. All the Powers have assented to America’s suggestion of an International Conference to consider the limitation or prohibition of the importation of opium except for medical purposes. Berlin, May 13. Two hundred incendiary fires have occurred in Berlin since February. The police are at their wits’ end and are watching 7000 houses. London, May 13. The County Council of London and a majority of the educational authorities have agreed to realise the conferences recommendations as to an interchange of teachers between the Motherland and colonies. The Court for the consideration of Crown leases and reserves, consisting of Lord Alverstone, and Messrs Ridley, Darling, Channel!, and Lawrence, dismissed Mrs Mary Hamilton’s appeal and affirmed her conviction for perjury in connection with the Druce caseSt. Petersburg, May 12. One hundred and twenty-eight political prisoners at Samara and 500 other prisoners have declared a “hunger strike” as a protest against the drastic prison regulations. They have already fasted five days, London, May 12. Owing to the refusal of Canon Bardsley to support his original charges against Canon Nash, Archbishop Clarke has withdrawn the order lor Canon Nash’s permanent disability, and has given Justice Hodges, Chancellor for the Diocese of Melbourne, and Archdeacon Hindley discretion to publish Canon Bardsley’s written accusation ; also Canon Nash’s apology to Ethel Bardsley and her signed statement. The Archbishop has no objection to everything being published if the Chancellor and the VicarGeneral approve of the course. Canon Nash is urged by his family to return to England.
