President Roosevelt, according to a cablegram received from New York this week, referred to the American multi-millionaire as a man whose daughter was a princess and his son a fool. An American journalist recently soared into statistics on the subject. Here
is his little list of a tew American girls who have wedded with unhappy results : —Miss Anna Robinson gave to Lord Rosslyn a fortune of ,£too,ooo. Her reward was to obtain a divorce. Miss Helen Morten brought to the Due de Bearnard de Pourtalis ; had a fortune of ,£10,000; separated. Miss Elizabeth Curtiss wedded Due de Dino, her fortune being ,£IOO,OOO ; divorced. Mrs Frederick Stevens married the Due de Dino ; her fortune totalled ,£1,400,000.; divorced. Miss Isabel Bunce wedded Baron Brinsart von Schweullendorf with her fortune of ,£200.000 ; separated. Miss Isabel Tucker married Lord Lindsay, her fortune being ,£20,000; divorced. Miss Edith van Bureau wedded Count Castalmanardo, her fotune amounting to ,£100,000; separated. Miss Lilian May married Lord William Bagot, her fortune being separated. Miss Julia B. Mackay wedded Prince Colono; her fortune was ,£100,000; divorced. Miss Consuelo Vanderbilt became Duchess of Marlborough ; her fortune was ,£3,000,000 ; separated. Miss Anna Gould married Count Boni de Castellane; her fortune was divorced. There is also the Countess of Yarmouth (nee Miss Alice Thaw, sister of the notorious Harry K. Thaw, a millionaire’s more or levs demented son) ; she has obtained nullity of her marriage with the lordly skirtdancer.
