THE MAYORALTY.
In response to a largely signed requisition, and after much persuasion, Mr B. G. Gower decided to allow himself to be nominated for the high and honourable position which he has filled with marked credit and dignity for several years. There being no other candidates offering, the borough is saved the expense of an election, and Mr Gower has been duly elected Mayor, unopposed. Unlike mayors of most boroughs, Mr Gower does not propound great schemes, but rather prefers that the initiative shall be taken by others, but always courts the fullest discussion on any new subject introduced at the Council table for the advancement of the borough, even at limes at the expense of the standing orders. The spirit of citizenship which has actuated the the Mayor in continuing in office is very commendable, and there is a whisper abroad that his services to the borough are to be enlarged upon at a certain convivial gathering at an early date.
