The pressure of arbitration awards all over New Zealand (says the Masterton Times) is forcing the formation of rings and combines, one object of which is to make two men do the work hitherto performed by three. In Masterton at the present time, we know that such combines are under consideration. In one trade alone the proposed combine means dispensing with the services of twenty or more workers, who are perhaps all unconscious that their eccupation is likely to be cut from under their feet. When they are cut adrift, will the city unions, which have engineered awards for them, find them any employment ? We fear not! We are only mentioning plain facts within our knowledge, which go to prove our contention that the management of our local industries by Wellington Unions has not been in the best interests of many of our workers.
