MAGISTRATE’S COURT. RETURNS.
The following are the quarterly returns of the local S.M. Court for the period ended 31st March : The Magistrate presided over three sittings, and Justices 25. The Magistrate dealt with 68 cases, and the Justices with a like number. Aggregate amount 'sued for, 1333 d; amount recovered a 565 8s sd. Fourteen applications were heard in Court; three orders made; 85 plaints entered : 14 distress warrants issued ; three judgment summonses issued, and two orders made on same; one warrant of commital issued. Eighty - four summonses were served witbin two miles, and 18 distress warrants; and 45 over two miles and four distress warrants. 9s was paid in civil fees. Forty - five males and three females were taken into custody or apprehended, twenty-nine males and three females were fined and two imprisoned; orders were made against nine males and one female, and four were convicted and discharged. Amount paid in criminal fees, 6s ; fines, £ 22. Six old age pensions were granted, and three are pending. There were five convictions for breaches of the Borough by-laws.
