A RACE COURSE INCIDENT.

Jockey Assaulted during a Race. Auckland, March 20, At the Mauaia Club’s races one of the riders struck the jockey on the winning horse in the run home, using the brass knob on the end of the whip. The injured man succeeded in winning the race, and dismounted with the blood pouring from two gashes just above the temple. Had the blow fallen an inch lower, the consequences must have been serious. The stewards wished to disqualify the offender for three years, but at the request of the other jockey, they only barred him for the rest of the meeting.
