Woman Tries to kill Lawyer. Chicago, January 15. The attempt by a woman,; who first gave her name as Mrs Thomas Metcalf and later said she was Mrs Beatrice ThomaS, to shoot Attorney R. Hamill, ope of John R. Walsh’s attorneys, in the Federal Building yesterday is declared by Attorney Hamill to-day to have beer the act of a person mentally irresponsible. The woman was held to the Federal Grand Jury in bonds of looodol. after waiving examination before Commissioner Foote. Failing to get bail, she was locked up in the county gaol. The woman said she had been treated unfairly by Attorney Hamill, and that she had been unable to obtain a righting of her wrongs. The woman was once the wife of a prominent business man of Attorney Hamill’s home town, Terre Haute. She declared that the lawyer’s attentions to her caused her to leave her husband, though she knew he had a wife living. “Then,” the woman says, “he grew tired of me and cast me aside after promising to get; a divorce from his wife and marry me.”
