THE HEMP MARKET,
The High Commissioner cabled yesterday afternoon : —A moderate business has been done in hemp, but market has declined further ; good fair spot, £23; fair spot £2O 25s ; fair current Manila, spot £22 ; March-May shipments, good fair, £23 ; fair £2O.
Levin and Company, limited, Wellington, held their fortnightly sale on Friday last offering a small quantity of wool in bales and bags, 1000 skins, 800 hides, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Wool ; Market weak and depressed. We quote: — medium crossbred, to 56. ; inferior, 3d to 4d ; lambs, wool to pieces, to ; locks, id to 2d- Skins:—Market lower again in sympathy with Eondon quotations. We quote:— fine crossbreds, 3d to sjksd; dead skins, medium crossbred, y/A to 4M ; dead hoggets, 2 j4d to 3M; lamb skins 4d to 4^d ; green pelts, is 8d to 2s yd ; green lambs (woolly), is 8d to 2s yd; green lamb pelts, is to is 6d. Tallow :—Weaker. • Parcels in shipping order £23 10s. Tins £ls to £l9, rough flat, £l3 to £ls 1 os. Horsehair : —is to is 3d per lb. Horns : —ss to lys 6d ber hundred. Cowtails : —is per dozen. Hides : Market easier all round; heaviest and medium suffering to, the extent of Jdd. Lights a halfpenny lower. We quote : —Ox hides (heavy), 3d to 6%!d; ox hides (medium), 3d to oxhides (light), 4d to 4M ; cow hides, 4d to 4^d; cut and slippy hides, 2d to stag hides, 2}4d bull hides, 2d to calf (cut and slippy), 2d ter 3d.
