ANTI-ASIATIC LEAGUE.

A public meeting, held under tbe auspices of the above, took place iti the Public Hall on Sunday night, and was attended by about 60 people. Mr R. Newth occupied the chair, and introduced Mr Hagerty, President of the local league, who then addressed the meeting on the undesirableness of allowing Chinese to come into the Dominion, and criticised their . modes of living, and competition. He stated that a numerously-signed pietitiou was to be forwarded to. Parliament, asking that the poll tax be increased, and suggesting a system of repatriation. After a - few remarks by the Chairman, the meeting closed, with the usual compliments to the speaker and j chairman.
