MONTGOMERY’S ENTERTAINERS.
The above combination of popular favourites give one of their enjoyable entertainments in the local Public Hall on Tuesday next, when an entirely new series of the latest successes will be shown speaking of which the Manawatu Times says:—lf we were asked to single out of the kaleidoscopic entertaiment provided last night one pictorial subject as worthy of special commendation we would select the thrilling series of “His Majesty the King and his navy.’’ The cable told us of the splendid achievements of the “ boys of the bull dog breed ” at a big gun practice. It was a veritable triumph for the experts iu gunnery, for out of 12 rounds fired iu 2J2 minutes when the leviathan of the ocean was going at full speed, no less than n hits were recorded on the 2500 yards distant targets. Illustrated magazines have shown us a glimpse of a man-o’- war cleared for action, but it remains for the animated picture to stir one’s pulse with the real thing pulsating with life and activity. Not the least interesting of this stirring serias was the frequently disclosed fact of the nation’s ruler being an appreciative eye-witness of the whole proceedings. Another very fine exhibition was that of the spectacular pantomime “ Ali Baba, the Forty Thieves.” This film was exquisitely coloured and contained a veritable banquet of beautiful visions. Much interest, too, was centred in the brilliant Coventry pageant in which the central figure of “ Lady Godiva,” of “ Peeping Tom ” memory was impersonated by La Milo, Many other subjects, entertaining and amusing, were shown, and included in the last class being a particularly humorous and mirthprovoking adventure of an individual whose arm chair declined to be left at home.
