MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD
EJECTION OF FIRST BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
The first poll held under the recently constituted Moutoa Drainage District, for the election of five trustees was held at the Borough Council Chambers yesterday. The election was supervised by Mr W. Bock, returning officer. Seven nominations to fill the five vacancies were originally received, but Mr Alex. Sauuders subsequently withdrew, leaving six Richmonds in the field. The settlers interested had a difficulty to decide who should be “last man out,” as all the candidates were good men and true, and more or less interested in the area affected by the flood waters of the Manawatu. Sixty votes were recorded out of a total ot 77, and out of this number only one was informal. The only voles not recorded were held by absentees. The individual voles obtained were as follow : —F. S. Easton, 40 ; closely followed by H. G. Hammond, 38 ; our worthy Mayor, B. G. Gower, scoring five behind the top-notcher, 35 ; Manawatu County Councillor Barber, 34; and Jas. N. Symons 29. The above are the elected candidates. Mr W. S. Carter, who polled 27 votes, was the rejected candidate. We are sure that Mr Carter’s non-election was not because of his lack of administrative ability—but owing to double representation at the south end. The candidates are representative of the whole district, and ratepayers can rest assured that their interests are iu very capable hands indeed. Under such favourable auspices, backed by a capable engineer, we wish the Board a long and useful career, and as a result increased prosperity to all settlers concerned.
