The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 1908. MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD EJECTION.
On Wednesday next the ratepayers of the recently-constituted Moutoa Drainage District, will be called upon to elect five trustees, who will constitute the first Board. Seven candidates have been nominated, namely Messrs Walter E. Barber, Walter S. Carter, Frederick S. Easton,. Bernard G. Grower, Henry G. Hammond, Alex, , Saunders, and James N. Symons. In conversation with our representative, Mr Saunders stated that it was his intention to withdraw his candidature, on the grounds that the southern end has already two other nominees to watch over its interests. We don’t know whether Mr Saunders’ resignation will reach the Returning Officer within the statutory three clear days. Whether it does or not, we think ratepayers will appreciate the motive which prompted Mr Saunders’ withdrawal. It is unnecessary for. us to say anything about the qualifications of the candidates. They are all level-headed, practical farmers. Their properties are all affected by the flood waters, and they know exactly how to spend the loan money to the best advantage of the district as a whole. The polling takes place at the Returning Officer’s office in the Council Chambers, Foxton, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
