The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, MARCH 5, 1908. ARTESIAN WATER.
Speaking to a represeentative of this journal recently, a well-known Wanganui resident stated that no great reliance could be placed on the continuous flow of water from artesian bores. He stated that a certain man put down a bore in one of the Wanganui suburbs, which seived its purpose satisfactorily until several neighbours followed suit. The result then was a much-diminished flow, which necessitated pumping. We have heard a similar remark from a local prominent man. If any reliance, therefore, is to be placed on these statements, what would happen to Foxton if it had to depend upon an artesian water supply ? Mr Martin, a well-known local well-sinker, has, on the other hand, assured us that he is positive there is a plentiful supply of artesian water at a certain level beneath the town. These remarks are, of course, purely speculative, but there is something reassuring about the gushing mountain torrent or spring for a lasting water supply.
