The Borough Council a short time since passed a bylaw prohibiting the lighting of fires in given areas in the Borough. It look upon itself a very considerable risk to private property by burning down the Chinese dens at the southern end of the town recently. These huts were within few chains of flaxmills and other properties. The flames from the burning mansions, however, was kept fairly under control thus preventing fire spreading to the dry grass and scrub adjoining. The Magistrate’s judgment in the case Gray v. Parish,is unavoidably held over till our next issue.
