A Fine of £lO Imposed. At Palmerston yesterday before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., Charles Young was charged with playing an unlawful game —two up—in a public place at Foxton, on January 22nd, 1908. Some of those in the crowd-were calling the odds, £3 to Accused threw twice while they were watching. Constable Woods then went round, but could not get to within about 20 yards without being seen, owing to the open nature of the yard. They then rushed towards the crowd, who at once dispersed, accused with them. They arrested accused and took him to the police station.' Constable Woods stated that he accompanied Detective Quirke on the day in question, and they saw accused tossing up two pennies. When they saw the police they scattered, and witness ran and followed accused. Saw accused throw something awav, which he took to be the two pennies, although he could not actually swear that it was the pennies. Mr Moore held that the case was a very weak one.
