Christchurch, January 22. The Christchurch Hospital caught on fire this morning, and extensively damaged the newer portion of the building. The' patients in the wards affected were all removed without difficulty, and it is not anticipated that the results to them will be serious. The inconvenience in the already crowded hospital will, however, be very great. ; The fire started in the roof of the Hyman Marks Building, a two-storey erection in brick at the west end of the hospital containing the men’s , accident, women’s and children’s wards. The Hyman Marks Wards cost j£ro,ooo to erect, and are insured in the Government Office for ,£5,000. The brick walls are intact, and ■' probably the restoration will cost about j£3Qoo.
