Market Quotations. The High Commissioner cabled at noon yesterday; Hemp market weaker * and slightly lower, with’ light transactions ; good fair spot, 10s; fair spot, £ 27 ; fair current Manila spot, £29 1 os; January - March shipments, good fair, £2B ; fair £27 ; fair current Manila, £29 1 os.
Replying to Mr W. T. Wood, regarding the charges made by the Wellington Harbour Board for re-packing bales of flax, Mr W. Ferguson, secretary to the Board, writes as follows:—“As far as lam able to judge, the amount of is gd charged for repacking bales is a fair amount, but I think that the amount of id per hank for drawing is quite inadequate, and ought to be increased to at least 2d. The bales have to be placed on end bn the floor, and four men are employed in pulling out each hank. I feel satisfied that the amount of id which we receive does not recoup us our cost.” The secretary has also drawn up a statement of revenue and cost for the twelve months ended September 30th, 1907. The cost to the Board is put down at ,£625 3s 6d, and the revenue at 8s 4d, the latter being made up as follows: —Repacking 6119 bales at is gd, ing hanks, 16,057 at id, £66 18s id : thus leaving a debit balance of £22 7s 2d.
