RAILWAY STATION VERANDAH.
Taihoa! The Minister for Railways in reply to a request for a verandah at the local railway station, sent through the member for the district, Mr John Stevens, has replied as follows: — With reference to the representations contained in your letter of the 28th ultimo respecting the erection of a verandah at the Foxton Railway Station, I have the honour to inform you that this matter has been carefully considered and I very much regret that, owing to the large number of urgent and important works that have to be undertaken in the North Island in anticipation of the opening of the North Island Main Trunk Railway and the heavy expenditure incurred in building rolling stock for the equipment of the lines, there are no funds available at the present time for works such as are asked for at Foxton. The matter must therefore stand in abeyance in the meantime until the more pressing railway requirements have been provided for. I have, however, taken, a note of your representations regarding the matter, and it will afford me pleasure to give them consideration when a favouropportunity occurs.
