FIRE AT AN OPERA HOUSE.

New York, January 14. A fire caused by the explosion of a cinematograph machine at the Rhodes Opera House, in Boyerton, Pennsylvania, killed eighty and injured one hundred other people. The explosion caused a panic amongst the audience. A crowd of 700, chiefly women and Sunday school scholars, rushed on to the stage, overturning the lamps, which set fire to the scenery. Part of the floor collapsed, precipitating scores of people into the basement. Within five minutes the theatre was a roaring furnace. The staircases were choked, many persons mounting on piles of bodies five feet high, to jump from upstairs windows. The fire apparatus was out of order.
