i Is it a Hoax.
Nelson, January 12.
Some excitement was caused sTesterday5 T esterday by the report that gold had|been discovered on the mud flat; along the water front. It appears that a party of Corporation' labourers who were laying the outfall of the sewage main, found traces of gold in the excava-
tions. They temporarily abandoned their work and mSde several “wash-ups,” with encouraging results. The men were soon joined by others. During the day ithg Convnissioner of Crown Lands issued licenses for one or two claims, which were duly pegged out, the holder of one of the largest being a neighbouring M.P. A hoax is now suspected.
