A GIRL SUICIDES

Dunedin, January 9. Early this morning Catherine M. Mead, fifteen years of age, shot herself through the breast at her parents’ residence at St Kilda. It appears that the deceased’s mother rebuked her at 9.30 last evening for being out late. This morning her mother found her at 5.45 sitting, half dressed, on her bed!. A little while after the mother heard a shot, and rushing in found her daughter had collapsed on the floor, wiih a loaded sixchambered revolver beside her. One chamber had been discharged. She was quite dead. Deceased’s father is an artilleryman, who has been working at the Heads lately. Restates that the women of the house suffering from burglar scare, had been in the habit of having bis revolver close at hand. He thinks his daughter was" tinkering with the weapon, when it exploded.
