The Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, DEC. 31, 1907. THE BEACH ROAD.
The Foxton Beach is becoming a popular seaside resort, and at present there is a record attendance there. The principal drawback to this favourite watering place is the wretched track, about a mile and a quarter in extent, Avhich does duty as a road. ThS Manawatu County Council is fesponsible for the track where the’road ought to be. But this body or no revenue from thjfe lands in the vicinity. The Marihe Department derive revenue from the fisherfolk and those who rent land on the foreshore. The Lands Department have all the sections at the sanatorium leased at fair rentals, and yet neither of these two last named departments spend a penny either to beautify this healthgiving resort, or to provide a road for the safety and convenience of hundreds of persons who have to traverse the sand-strewn, ruthidden, spring-breaking, drivercursing stretch. Will any one get on their waistcoat button and beseech the Ministers of Marine and Lands to sprinkle ,£SOO on this road ? Or else invite them to pay the seaside a visit, in order to give them a taste of a ride to the Beach. The person who has twice negotiated the road in a vehicle of any description is entitled to a first-class buck-jumping reputation! Will anyone move in the matter ?
