OUR NAVY.
Sir Edward Grey, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, speaking at Berwick last week eulogised the entente with France, and said that Britian was willing to extend it to other Powers in questions in which they were directly concerned with us. The Kaiser’s visit was bound to have a good effect in both countries. With regard to the proposal made by Britain at the Hague ■ ' Conference that the Powers should compare their naval programmes with a view to a mutual reduction cepted. It was well kndwn that the German Government was embarking on a very large naval pro- - gramme. Sir Edward added •: ° I have no complaint to make. I mention the fact because it is - important, and not in any carping .■ - spirit.
