THE McEWEN FUND.

To the Editor. Sir, —I notice in your last issue reference to the McEwen fund. I am rather pleased to think that your correspondent “ Subscriber,” has the courage to vouchsafe his opinion. As a matter of fact, in answer to “Subscriber’s” ques- - tion, I have no knowledge of any moneys being paid out as a result of “ Flower Queen’s ” production, other than that Mr G. Gray has on his list the sum of odd as the proceeds cf that production. Your “ Subscriber ” will note that this amount is credited on the list when Mr R. Moore (solicitor and sole trustee) has compiled his list of subscribers. As Secretary of the Sub-Union, I have no knowledge of any mpnies being paid over to McEwen, though I am conversant with the fact that Mr R. Moore |b , empowered to vote McEwen a Stnst\v sufficient to defray cost of relatives at Xmas tide. As to the query, “ how the fund stands,” I may answer approximately that the sum total of the fund reaches ' something between and As a matter of fact, I had no authority to take the initiative (but preferred to do so on my own in the best interests), hence the meeting held last night is reported in another column.
