. fADVT.] (TO THE EDITOR.) Sir, —We have in our town a certain agent for cheap cycles. This gentleman claims to be able to sell cycles cheaper than any living mortal. We are prepared to let the hawker ramble along in his own cockney style, and allow the public to be the judge as between himself, or any other itinerant hawker, and my firm. My firm has quite recently had to warn certain individuals with legal proceedings in respect to misrepresentations. A word to the wise should be sufficient. In writing this letter it is not with the idea of having "ago” at the man with the cheap bikes, but to uphold the reputation of my firm in the face of certain mis-statements to the effect that the persons referred to can sell Red Birds or any other machine for which my firm hold the sole agency, at 12s, We assure our clients that these assertions are absolutely false, and we challenge these, or any other agents, to fulfill their boast. On the other hand, we can sell the same class of goods as they sell at precisely the same figure.— I am, etc., G. S. Foweer, Representative Palmerston Cycle and Motor Co. [advt.] (to the editor.) Sir, —We find in your issue of Tuesday, December 3rd, 1907, an advertisement signed by G. S. Fowler, representative Palmerston Cycle and Motor Coy. He refers to the cheap cycle agents and hawkers who ramble along in their own cockney style, and, as we are the only firm in Foxton at present selling cycles at a reasonable figure, we take it he alludes to us, and hasten to reply. We admit we are Englishmen, and are willing to give the public of Foxton the benefit of our English experience of English prices and manufacture regarding cycles. We do not hawk bicycles—we look for business and find it. We find it pays better than staying in the shop all day listening to the graphophone. Now, we do not claim to sell bicycles cheaper than any other mortal, but we evidently sell them cheaper than other agents because —(1) Mr Fowler admits he is able to sell the same article as we do at precisely the same figure ; (2) has he ever done it ? (3) we are led to believe this is the first intimation the public of Foxton have had regarding the fact. We do not claim to sell Red Birds for American cycles—but we do claim that no cycle is worth Now, we would like to point out to Mr Fowler that we would not stoop so low as to tell a dissatisfied client not to go to Mr Fowler for his cycle, but to get it elsewhere. We would like the Foxton public to understand that we sell any English make of cycles for £lO los and ,£l2 12s, and guarantee them in writing for two years. 8.5. A., £l2 12s, stamped throughout, guaranteed two years ; Swift, Rudge-Whitworth, Raleigh, Singer, Quadrant, Premier, Centaur, Humber, Rover, New Rapids, Hudsons, Raglans, Populars, Triumphs and various other makes from £g 9s, guaranteed for two years. Thanking Mr Fowler for his kindness in advertising us so well, and trusting the above will convince the public that we do an honest business.—l am, etc., H. W. Nevieee, Watson and Neville, Revolution Cycle Co., Feilding. P.S. —Clients please note that our sale closes on Saturday next, but we will revisit Foxton at an early date.
