TENNIS.
[By “ Watchful. ”]
A special general meeting of the local tennis club was held on the courts yesterday afternoon to consider a resolution as to whether rule 5 should be altered enabling members to play on the courts with rubber - heeled boots and shoes. The resolution was lost. The rule therefore stands unaltered which, in effect, precludes any one wearing other than tennis shoes from playing on the courts. The infringement of this rule in the past has caused a little unpleasantness among members, which it is hoped will not occur in future.
A member brought up another infringement of the rules at yesterday’s meeting with reference to certain members monopolising the courts longer than the stipulated time. The committee should deal firmly with such selfishness 011 the part of certain players. In fact members who are Waiting to play and notice this class of “pointing ” should enter a practical protest by walking on to the court. Each financial member should bear in mind that the courts are not maintained with the idea of favouring any select few. Equal privileges are extended to all and any attempt at “ lording ” or “ pointing” should be immediately reported to the Secretary or member of committee.
The courts are being well patronised from early morning till darkness deepens.
