MOUTOA NOTES.
(own correspondent.) I The heavy rain that fell lastA. Thursday did an immense amount of good to the crops and pastures out here, and now “everything pleases.” In fact, there ought to be nothing more pleasant to those Foxtonians who are fond of driving than a trip through Moutoa at present. Mr F. S. Easton has a large gang of men employed erecting a stop-bank on Dr Wall’s property, and which, when finished, ought to check the immense body of water which . flows over the road when the river is in; flood. The pace of the snail is meteoric when compared with the progress that is being made with' the erection of the Shannon - Moutoa bridge. If the present progresses maintained the bridge will be about finished when Angel Gabriel sounds the last trumpet. Mr W. Walden has just completed his new flaxmill and intends to make a start stripping on Monday, and everyone will wish this popular miller good luck. The most successful dance we have had this season took place on Wednesday evening, whp about sixty residents attended at the invitation of Mr W. Waldeflt Dancing was kept up till the shSjl hours of the morning. The groves of cabbage trees along the river bank have presented a magnificent sight this season, being a mass of bloom. Old settlers say they don’t remember seeing them bloom to such perfection before.
