London, November 19. The Times’ New York correspondent indicates the growing influence of Mr Hughes, Governor of New York, as a potential candidate for the Presidency. Financiers reading between the lines, infer from his speeches that he adopts President Roosevelt’s policies, but is more conservative in his method of dealing with trusts and corporations. Hence Mr Taft, the President’s first choice, is less popular in New York State. Ottawa, November 19, Mr Setton, a Canadian naturalist and explorer, reports that the socalled baren lands extending into the Arctic circle aiefull of game, well watered, and fit for cultivation very far north.
