SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the above was held at Mr Frankland’s lesidence on Thursday night. Present: Messrs Wilson (chairman), Hennessy, Henderson, Perrean, Eevett, Betty, Baker, and the Secretary (Mr F. W. Frankland). Correspondence was read from the Education Board re payment of sanitary rate, also letters from the Minister for Education and member for the district, acknowledging resolution passed by the Committee re classification of scholars.
The Headmaster’s report stated that the average attendance for the last three weeks had been 191, 212, 212, out of a roll number of 276. Inspectors Milne and Strong had conducted the annual examination, and the report would be handed to the Committee in due time. The two candidates tor proficiency certificates both passed with a high percentage. The attendance at the examination was 222, which, the report stated, was evidence that there is still much sickness, particularly measles, among the children. The Headmaster asked that he be notified of the meetings of committee.
It was decided to notify the Headmaster of future committee meetings.
It was resolved to apply to the Board for permission to use the old school residence for the purpose of accommodating a cleaner. Upon receiving a reply from the Board the matter will be further dealt with.
An account was passed for payment, and the Committee then discussed technical education as published elsewhere.
